BIO

Andrew MacKelvie is an improviser, saxophonist, and educator. He has been a staple of the music scene in Halifax since 2011, playing and recording across genres and winning multiple ECMA and Music Nova Scotia Awards. For over 10 years he was mentored by master musician and visionary educator Jerry Granelli in his unique style of holistic music teaching. This teaching practice focuses on mindfulness and awareness to further student creativity, craft, and confidence. He teaches music and band as a substitute at the Halifax Regional Centre for Education. He taught the saxophone studio at NSCC for 5 years. Andrew has a degree in music from St. Francis Xavier and in music education from Memorial University of Newfoundland & Labrador.
