Who we are?

Welcome to Ekko Performing Arts Society

At Ekko Performing Arts Society, we believe in the power of music and the performing arts to transform lives. Formerly known as Ekko Mindful Music Studio, our journey has evolved into a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering creativity, inclusivity, and community engagement through performing arts.

Rooted in the heart of Downtown Dartmouth, we provide a space where artists, students, and community members can explore their artistic potential while supporting mental wellness and personal growth.

We are grateful to live, learn, and create on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, known as Mi’kma’ki. These lands are covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, which continue to guide our relationships and responsibilities today. We honour the spirit and intent of these treaties and are committed to ongoing learning, respect, and relationship-building. We are all Treaty People.

We also recognize the enduring legacy, resilience, and cultural contributions of African Nova Scotians, a distinct and vibrant community that has enriched this province for over 400 years. Their stories and creativity continue to inspire our work.

As part of our commitment to equity and inclusion, we are actively working to ensure that our leadership—including our Board of Directors—reflects the diversity of the communities we serve.

From Social Enterprise to Non-Profit Organization

Ekko began as a small, passionate music studio focused on mindful music education in 2021. As we grew, we recognized a larger need for accessible performing arts programs in our community—programs that not only teach artistic skills but also create meaningful connections and positive social impact.

This realization inspired our transition into a non-profit organization on April 1, 2025. With this shift, Ekko Performing Arts Society now serves a broader community, offering more inclusive and accessible programs for all ages and backgrounds.

N

Ekko is so much more than a music studio it offers programs for all ages and abilities the chance to grow, develop and express themselves in a safe, fun and supportive setting. It is also an accepting community of diversity for other who simply want to enrich their own life well as as the life of others. It is also a growing institution of artistic musical and theatrical expression in the Dartmouth and HRM community.

My six year old daughter started piano lessons in the fall at Echo and absolutely loves them. She literally runs into the studio each week pumped for her lesson. Reagan has an incredibly special way of meeting each kid where they are at and making each lessons super fun and engaging.

Ekko is the best music studio! The instructors are talented and caring, and both my kids and I love and look forward to our lessons. This is a community you want to be a part of!

A wonderful music studio run by an amazing group of humans! My children take multiple lessons with different teachers and we have zero complaints. You can tell the teachers really love what they do and it fosters a similar love of music for the kids. My family and I feel so privileged to be part of the Ekko community ❤️
